The second book in our dystopian unit was Fahrenheit 451. We met Guy Montag and journeyed with him as he questioned society. A world without books and individual thought is something to ponder. It's interesting to think about how a book written decades ago (1953) could be so accurate - two-way wireless communication, DNA identification, wall televisions. Ray Bradbury either had a spot on imagination or could see the future...or maybe our society is just that predictable. Hmm.
The Senior English class just finished reading the novel The Giver as an introduction to our dystopian unit. If you're interested in reading the other three books in The Giver Quartet, check them out at the North Harrison Library. Technically, they are "companion" books and not sequels. Search the NH library database to see the variety of books available!
Self Portraits with Tagxedo
After writing biographies in their blogs, students entered their text and pictures in the Tagxedo site to create these awesome portraits. Love it!

Seniors used their creative writing and research skills to create their own blog. For three weeks, students were asked to write a blog entry each day responding to assigned or original blog topic ideas. They also commented on others' blog entries throughout the week. Easier said than done! We used the site KidBlog - which is a free, safe, and teacher monitored site for kids.
